We Created A Spec Commercial For Baby Brezza: Here’s How We Did It And How You Can Too

Here at Twin Voyage Productions, we love to push ourselves in the creative process. In order to do so, we create a variety of content throughout each year to test new gear and techniques so that we can better serve our clients.

Our latest endeavor is a spec commercial for Baby Brezza, a company that specializes in baby products. The steps we used in this project are simple enough for any business owner to follow along. If you’re a business owner who’s interested in created ad spots for your products, or simply a creative who wants to learn then this post is for you.

About The Product

The Baby Brezza Formula Pro Advanced is a kitchen appliance that makes warm baby bottles in just a few seconds. It's easy to use, making it perfect for new parents who may not have had much time to learn something new. We actually love the product, and have linked it here in case you're interested in learning more. Now for the good stuff - our creative process.

Planning The Product Commercial

In order to create a product commercial for Baby Brezza, we started by researching the brand’s current content. To do this, we analyzed the company’s website and social media channels for both text and video content. This allowed us to see what type of messaging has been used in their past marketing materials and what kind of tone they were trying to establish for each piece.

Next, we created a shot list. We knew we wanted to use our motion control rigs (more on this below) so our list was comprised of simple shots that contained movement. Lastly, we decided to give ourselves a time constraint of two hours. With us having other projects in the pipeline, it was important for us to use a creative strategy that was cinematic, yet efficient. 

Shooting The Product Commercial

For filming the product commercial, the first thing of importance is to have a sturdy tripod. This will ensure that the shots are stable and look professional. Secondly, lighting the product appropriately for the brand and theme of the commercial is a must. For Baby Brezza, their content is brightly lit in clean and inviting family spaces. Therefore, we took this approach rather than something more dramatic like you could potentially see in an ad for a different audience such as a whiskey brand.

For the camera we used the Sony A7SIII since its size enables us to use it with little to no crew, while delivering a stellar 4K image quality. If filming your own product commercial on a budget, however, this is not a necessary step. Your iphone can shoot 4K after all and many influencers create quality content on their mobile device.

Finally, we had just purchased our new edelkrone motion control system and this was the perfect opportunity to test it out before taking it on set with clients. The edelkrone slider plus v5 pro and the jibone both gave us clean cinematic movements to really highlight the product.

Post Production & Promotion

We knew we wanted to share this via instagram before heading into post production and we formatted our editing timeline to a square aspect ratio to accommodate.  

When in the edit, make sure your video is engaging and entertaining from start to finish. This will help with views and shares. Our thought process here was to think about how we would want my friends or family members to react when watching this? Is there anything else we can add that might get them more excited about the product? Are we showing the product properly?

Once the editing is done and everything looks great, share about it! Post links on social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter as well as sending them out via email lists or newsletters if possible too! If its a spec commercial its even worth it to share it directly to the product owner. After all, you never know what could happen.
