Three Ways Artists Can Use Video To Promote Their Brand

Music is the universal language. It transcends racial, cultural, and language barriers across the world. Then why is it some artists struggle to connect with an audience, while others receive millions upon millions of streams? While there are many answers to this question; we will explore one solution to this problem - building a better connection between an artist and their potential audience. Combining video with social media is a great way to get your name out there. Here are three ways that artists can use video to promote their brand.

Music Videos

For an artist, the music video is the most popular way to get your work into the hands of new fans. Often times, it is the first way fans “meet” by finally connecting a face with the name and voice they have come to love. Music Videos also allow people to get a better sense of how you perform and gives them an idea of your visual style. Are you fashionable? Trendy? Awkward?  Lean into your personality or even better - embrace a little acting and lean into your character - to really make your music video shine.

Think of a music video as having your own mini movie trailer for each song on an album or EP. It'll show off the vibe of the song while also giving listeners an idea of what inspired your music. If potential fans find themselves enjoying your music and how you perform it, they'll be more likely to buy tickets to your shows or stream your music. And when it comes to streaming, did you know Youtube is the #1 music streaming platform in the world? We think it would be a great idea to give your audience something to watch as they listen to your songs.

Behind the Scenes Video

Behind the scenes videos are a great way to connect with your fans and show off your personality. They can be used to tell stories about what it's like to be an artist, what inspires your music, clips from making music videos, or how you made a song. These kinds of videos also give fans an opportunity to see all that goes into making music and how much work artists put into their art.

The hidden value within behind the scenes content is that it can be very simple to create, and it is one of the few forms of content that artists can create with minimal resources. When we film behind the scenes of our music videos, for example, we assign this responsibility to one additional crew member who is responsible for capturing this footage. Alternatively, an artist can simply place their phone on a tripod to document themselves for their fans. After all, the key to connecting with fans through behind the scenes video content is not the quality of the footage, but the authenticity of the artist.

Short Form Social Media Content

Short-form content is a great way to engage your audience, promote your brand and build an audience. The good news is if you have successfully created the first two forms of content we discussed in this post, you can easily repurpose those products for shorter form social media content. Here are some other examples of short-form content that could be used by artists to get their music out there:

  • Knowing the trends - Participating in the latest #challenge online help keep an artist relevant and show their fun side.

  • Personal Posts - A post or two sharing what's going on in the studio or personal life can keep fans interested in what you're doing next, as well as give them a peek inside the creative process.

  • Show the Process - Videos showing off how songs were written or recorded can add value for fans by giving them insight into how the artist works. Plus, it gives them something fun to watch!

When posting this content remember the goal here is audience engagement. Use social media to be social. When sharing the content, be sure to reply to your fans comments whenever possible to keep the conversation going.
